Frederika Roberts | Yorkshire Women of Achievement Awards NomineeHappiness Expert clinches two Award nominations

Happiness Expert and Inspirational Speaker Frederika Roberts has been nominated in the ‘Courage’ category of the prestigious Sue Ryder Yorkshire Women of Achievement Awards and in the Speaker/Trainer category of the Damsels in Success #WIW (Women Inspiring Women) Awards.

The Yorkshire Women of Achievement Awards will take place on Friday 15th May at the Royal Armouries in Leeds.  This will be the inspirational event’s 29th year of celebrating the achievements of women from across Yorkshire and raising funds for the Sue Ryder charity.  The categories are: Business, Education, Sport, Young Achiever, Community and the Jane Tomlinson Courage Award.  The independent panel of judges will select one winner for each category and an overall winner from all the category winners.  The Awards typically attract around 700 people and receive extensive press and media coverage.

The annual Women Inspiring Women Awards is a prestigious black tie event that celebrates the amazing achievements of some of the most inspirational women on the planet.  This year’s categories are Coach Mentor, Business Growth, Trainer/Speaker, Overcoming Adversity, Women’s Role Model / Advocate, Shining Online, Woman to Watch / Rising Star, Author / Blogger, Woman in the Community, The Knight in Shining Armour Award.  The nominees will go through an initial shortlisting process, followed by online voting and a final judging panel before the winners are announced at a glitzy event in Birmingham on 13th June.

Both of Frederika’s daughters were born with severe, complex and life-threatening heart conditions.  Between them, they have had two cardiac arrests, three open heart surgeries and numerous other hospital stays, both planned and unplanned.  Frederika, her husband and her two daughters have not just survived these ordeals, but found a way to thrive and enjoy what at times seemed impossible: a ‘normal’ family life, full of laughter, fun, school runs, work, arguments, banter and teenage angst!  Frederika has turned Happiness into a career, in order to inspire others to overcome even the hardest adversity.

Georgina Abbott, Senior Hospice Fundraiser at the Sue Ryder Wheatfields Hospice says “We are thrilled to have Frederika as one of our nominees for this year’s awards. Each year we recognise the outstanding achievements of women in Yorkshire. Frederika has shown true courage in the face of adversity and we will look forward to celebrating her achievements and all of our inspirational nominees on the day.”

In her nomination for the Women Inspiring Women Awards, Lottie Hearn Ross of Press Play Presentations wrote “Her willingness to share her inspirational, emotional, heart-string-pulling story and the joy which she has created from adversity and now shares with the world, to help us discover, create and build on our own happiness, even in the down times, are an absolute pleasure to observe, be invited in to, to share and be motivated by.  As a speaker Fred stimulates, enthuses, stirs, encourages and dazzles – all of which she does so in such an understated, simply, yet genius self-effacing manner.”

As ‘The Happiness Speaker’, Frederika shares the happiness lessons she has learnt over the years with schools (pupils, teachers and parents), businesses and charities through her inspirational Speeches, Happiness Masterclasses and Laughter Yoga sessions.

“I am incredibly moved by and grateful for these nominations”, says Frederika. “Having seen previous years’ winners and nominees, I feel honoured to be in such great company and will no doubt shed a few tears at the inspirational stories I will hear on the day.  I would be thrilled, not to mention stunned, if I won either Award, but just being nominated for such prestigious awards feels amazing and deeply humbling.”

Frederika’s clients to date have included the BBC, Greater Manchester Police, schools and charities.  She is the author of ‘Recipe for Happiness’, available in Paperback and on Kindle from www.recipe-for-happiness.co.uk .  Frederika is also President of the Yorkshire Region of the Professional Speaking Association of the UK and Ireland (PSA).
